Genealogy and Research at the McCleary Museum

Are you looking for your family roots or local history? The Charles H. Fattig Office Suite is the heart of our research center. This space holds our library, archives, and the office of our Museum Curator. It is the perfect place to discover the stories of the people who built our region.

What You Can Discover

Our collection covers McCleary and many nearby areas in East Grays Harbor. You can find records and information from:

  • Local Towns: Explore history from McCleary, Summit, Elma and surrounding areas.

  • Church and School Records: View original records from the United Methodist Church (which was once in our building) and local schools in Elma and McCleary. – Fun Fact, The School was held in our building from 1946 to 1947 while a new school was built after a fire.

  • Funeral Home Records: Access historical records from local funeral homes to help trace your family tree.

  • Community Groups: Learn about the history of theĀ  Chamber of Commerce, The Ladies Aid Society (later known as The Women’s Society), McCleary Grange, McCleary Bear Festival and the UBC WSRCC Local 2761.

  • Industrial History: Research the workers and operations of McCleary Timber Company, McCleary Door Plant and Simpson Door Plant.

Unique Historical Treasures

Researchers can also view our extensive photography collection, which captures a century of local life. One of our most prized items is a McCleary Timber Company partner desk that was generously donated by UBC WSRCC Local 2761.
